Configure Log Rotation and Retention for OUD (Oracle Unified Directory) Servers

2390539

Oracle Unified Directory provides several types of logs: access logs, audit logs, error logs, debug logs, and a replication repair log. As an administrator, it is important for you to set right rotation and retention policies so that the file systems don’t become 100% utilized

To check the current list of log files enabled in OUD, run the below command in your OUD Instance:

./dsconfig -h localhost -p 4444 -D “cn=Directory Manager” -j pwd-file -X -n list-log-publishers

To check the current log rotation policies for your OUD instance, run the below command:

./dsconfig -h localhost -p 4444 -D “cn=Directory Manager” -j pwd-file -X -n list-log-rotation-policies

To check the current log retention policies for your OUD Instance, run the below command:

./dsconfig -h localhost -p 4444  -D “cn=Directory Manager” -j pwd-file -X -n list-log-retention-policies

To change these policies to  meet your requirement, you can update them through the command line option using dsconfig or you can do it through the ODSM console as shown below:

  • Login to ODSM Console

  • Click on the configuration tab

  • Click on Loggers and select the logger setting you want to update

  • To change the rotation and retention policies, click on the respective links as shown below

8-14-2016 11-53-16 AM

Once the changes are done, save and apply. Validate the settings again to make sure it meets your requirements.
